Speculative Fiction Festival 2011

Saturday 5 November 2011

Speculative fiction includes science fiction, fantasy, horror, ghost stories, paranormal romance, alternative histories, cyberpunk, steampunk, fairytale retellings, post-apocalyptic fiction, time travel adventures, and magic realism. It can be read by any age from birth to death, and ranges from the shortest of short fiction to epic tales that run to millions of words.

On Saturday, 5 November, some of Australia’s most popular and celebrated SF authors, critics, publishers and film-makers came together at the NSW Writers’ Centre to talk, laugh, argue and speculate. Authors include Kate Forsyth, Pamela Freeman, Margo Lanagan, Richard Harland, Belinda Murrell, Jack Heath and Kaaron Warren, talking about topics ranging from how to be published internationally to the difference between heroic fantasy and new weird. A panel on SF in television and film brings together Bruce Carter, Creative Director of Animal Logic, Colin Harvey, writer for Dr Who and Highlander licensed tie-in stories, and Karel Segers, film producer and story analyst. And not just one but two fabulous launches!
