Award-winning science fiction author, Marianne de Pierres, will conduct a comprehensive workshop on writing speculative fiction. Participants will learn how to amass the right tools for world building; how to create convincing worlds that are authentic, logical, and original; and how to effectively blend the sub-genres of speculative fiction to create more exotic stories.

The workshop will also be broken up into sections that explore the concept of creating adaptable content for New Media; how to survive and stay relevant in the brave new world of publishing; and how to make creative content applicable across a plethora of storytelling platforms. Finally, a section of the workshop will be devoted to discussing the current state of the speculative fiction publishing industry, sharing useful insights for publishing, and tips on how to write for the future.

Student Requirements
Optional: please send in 1000 words of a current work in progress at least a week prior to the workshop (email to workshops@nswwc.org.au) to be used by the tutor as context for the workshop.

About the tutor
Marianne de Pierres
 is the author of the popular Parrish Plessis trilogy and the award-winning Sentients of Orion and Peacemaker series. The Parrish Plessis series has been translated into ten languages and adapted into a role-playing game. Marianne has also authored children’s and young adult stories, notably the Night Creatures trilogy a dark fantasy series for teens. She is an active supporter of genre fiction and has mentored many writers. Marianne also writes award-winning crime under the pseudonym Marianne Delacourt.
