One-on-One Online: Short Stories

Is it time to take your short story writing to the next level? Receiving individual feedback is an ideal way to develop your writing skills. In this online course, you’ll receive one-on-one feedback on your stories, enabling you to hone your skills over five months. The feedback will vary depending on each story, but may focus on characterisation, structure, voice, setting or pace, among other possibilities.

Each month from April through August, you’ll submit a story of up to 1500 words via email. The following week, your tutor will return the story with tips to help you develop both that specific story and your writing in general. Each month, you can submit either new or previously submitted writing. 

This course is ideal for those who have written a number of short stories, had a first publication or contest short listing, and are now keen to further develop their craft.

Participant Requirements
Email access and confidence using basic computer software

Submissions (up to 1500 words of fiction) are due on the following dates:

Sunday 8 April
Sunday 6 May
Sunday 3 June
Sunday 8 July
Sunday 5 August

You will receive your feedback within two weeks of submission.

About the tutor
Tegan Bennett Daylight
taught writing at the University of Technology Sydney for more than 15 years, and has continued to run writing workshops and mentoring programs at all levels. She is experienced with large and small groups, as well as one on one engagement with writers and their writing. Her recent collection of short stories, Six Bedrooms, was shortlisted for the Stella Award, the ALS Gold Medal, and the Steele Rudd Award.
