All skill levels are welcome. This course can help you create new original work or adapt written material for audio.

This course will give you an in-depth understanding of what is needed to create a compelling podcast. We will examine each stage of the podcast production process:

  • Identifying strong ideas for audio
  • Narration and interviewing skills
  • Equipment needed to start recording
  • Tips on editing and where to learn advanced skills
  • Best practice for podcast distribution

We’ll also discuss the market for podcasts, different models for funding and future possibilities for the local and international industry.

This course is ideal for people wanting to develop their audio skills to create their own independent podcast or pitch podcast and radio ideas to organisations.

  • Develop an understanding of the practice methods to use equipment and software to produce high quality audio
  • Understand the strengths of audio and what makes compelling listening
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of podcast distribution and financing

Participant Requirements
Pen and paper. Audio examples we will examine in the course will be distributed prior to the class.

About the tutor
Miles Martignoni
works at Guardian Australia as their podcast producer, developing all of their audio projects. For five years he worked at 2SER 107.3, creating training programs and directing digital content development. Miles has taught audio production and journalism at Macquarie, Sydney and Wollongong Universities and worked for ABC Local Radio. He freelances regularly, and his past clients include Radio National, the WWF, Fairfax, the NRL, The Cancer Council and Sydney Festival.
