Members’ Opportunities

The NSW Writers’ Centre runs a number of services and opportunities that are available to members only. These services are designed to help boost members on their path towards publication and development as writers.

Mentorship

The NSW Writers’ Centre offers a mentorship scheme for members who would like professional assistance with their writing. It is best suited for writers who have a fully completed manuscript and need some help to more it to the next draft.

The scheme offers one-to-one discussion, supervision and analysis of a member’s work with an experienced, established writer or editor. This may involve face-to-face meetings held at times and places suitable to both mentor and mentoree, email communication, skype chats and/or phone link ups. Members may choose their mentor from the list available on our website. Alternatively, members may nominate a writer they would like to work with, and the Centre will endeavour to secure the services of that writer. Click here to read more about our mentorship program.

NSW Writers’ Centre/Varuna Fellowship

The NSW Writers’ Centre / Varuna Fellowship is for an annual program for a writer who has a manuscript, play or suite of poems that is ready for the next stage of development. The writer must be a NSWWC member who is willing to commit to developing their work.

One NSWWC member is awarded a one-week residency and professional development/manuscript consultation at Varuna, the Writers’ House. This will include accommodation and all meals for a seven night residency.

The writer is also given two further dedicated one-on-one consultations with a member of the creative team during their stay. Three runners up receive a reading, review and consultation place. Click here for more information on the fellowship.
