Program Officer

The NSW Writers’ Centre is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Program Officer to help design and administer our lively program of courses and other services for writers.

Reporting to the Program Manager, you will coordinate the logistics of our professional development program, contribute to strategies for future programming and help coordinate promotion of the program through our weekly e-newsletter, digital platforms, print publications and other channels.

You will have experience in administration within an arts or adult education environment, as well as strong communication and digital skills. Your interest in writers and engagement with the writing community will equip you to help set strategic directions for the professional development program. You will be creative, energetic, flexible and an excellent communicator and team player, with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time. Consultative, but also able to work independently, you will demonstrate a rigorous attention to detail and a determination to get things right.

This is a 0.8 position (4 days per week), with some weekend and evening work required. The salary package will be pro rata of a full-time annual package of $50-55,000 including superannuation, depending on experience.

Selection criteria: Program Officer

  • Experience in administration within an arts or adult education environment
  • Demonstrated interest in writers and engagement with the writing community
  • Ability to think strategically and to make a creative contribution to programming and promotional planning
  • Digital experience, including in website content, social media and online learning platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at a time with meticulous attention to budgets, schedules and record-keeping
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, while ensuring managers and colleagues are kept informed
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work constructively and consultatively as part of a small team and to liaise with external speakers, partner organisations, media and others
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on tasks as required

Internships

The NSW Writers’ Centre offers six half-yearly internships. These volunteer positions are an excellent opportunity for emerging arts workers with an interest in literature, communications or arts management to develop their skills by working with our talented and supportive team.

The internships are advertised each year in May and November. The successful applicants work one day per week from January-June or July-December at our office in Callan Park, Rozelle.

 

 

Located in beautiful Callan Park, Rozelle, the NSW Writers’ Centre is a not-for-profit organisation that provides support to writers at all stages of their careers. We run a lively program of courses, workshops and events as well as providing a range of services to our members and the broader writing community. The Centre receives funding from Create NSW, the Australia Council and Inner West Council. In 2018, the organisation will be changing its name to Writing NSW.
