Enquiries and Submissions
Our Newsbite editor is only in the office one day per week. Therefore, to save time, please read the FAQs and submission guidelines below before enquiring.
When Will My Notice Appear?
Newsbite is put together every Tuesday, to go out the following Monday. If your notice is received any later than Tuesday, it will have to wait for the following week before it reaches our Newsbite editor.
Newsbite often receives a large volume of notices and we don’t have the time and space to list them all right away. Our Newsbite editor always attempts to respond to submissions, however, due to time constraints this may not always be possible. Therefore, we recommend subscribing to the newsletter and checking for the appearance of your notice for three issues before enquiring.
Opportunities for Writers
The NSW Writers’ Centre lists opportunities for writers on the week we hear about them, then again as a reminder the week before they close. All opportunities are to have a maximum of 200 characters not including links, which we can hyperlink.
Due to the high level of demand and restricted time-frame, the Centre requests that you submit your opportunities in the format that they will appear in Newsbite. See the example below.
26 August: KSP Emerging Writers’ Residencies
Three positions for four weeks or part-time equivalent for talented writers able to show application to the craft of writing. Selected writers will have some published material in the print, visual or broadcast media. Salary $2250. Visit www.kspf.iinet.net.au.
Member Notices
The NSW Writers’ Centre will publish only one notice from a member per issue. This will be on a first come first served basis. Please keep submissions to 100 words or less, with only the essential information.
Book Reviews
Newsbite publishes one book review per week and has a committed team of volunteer reviewers. We review books that have been published both by commercial publishing houses and self-published books. However, you must be a member of the Centre or a current NSW resident for your book to be reviewed. If you would like to submit your book for review, please mail a copy to:
NSW Writers’ Centre
PO Box 1056
Rozelle NSW 2039
Include a brief covering letter with information about the intended audience of your book, your contact information and a link to where it can be purchased. We will endeavor to respond to let you know the book has been received but can make no guarantees. Please note that due to the high volume of books we receive the current period is three months between our receipt of your book and the publication of a review. You will receive an email the week before your review is due to be published. Note that Newsbite does not allow authors to read the review before it is published and cannot give you reviewer contact information.
If you are interested in joining our team of volunteer book reviewers, please email the Centre with your name, phone number, mailing address and a 100 word statement about why you would like to be involved, plus any relevant writing experience and you will hear back from us within fourteen days.
What About Events?
Publication of event notices has now been moved from Newsbite to the Centre’s Facebook page. Please email a maximum of 100 words plus a link to your event page to the Centre. Sorry, we don’t advertise workshops, causes or book launches or any notices from non not-for-profit organisations.
